How to Read a Cable Spec Sheet: 8 Fields to Check Before Ordering

Comparing cable quotations is easy when you know which fields decide the price and the performance. Before accepting any offer, check these eight fields on the spec sheet:

  • Standard & listing — UL 83, UL 1277, UL 1569, CSA C22.2, GB/T — the listing file number should be stated.
  • Voltage rating — 300V, 600V, 1kV, 8.7/15kV… never mix classes in one comparison.
  • Conductor — copper or aluminium, solid or stranded, AWG/kcmil or mm².
  • Insulation — PVC, XLPE, EPR; thickness per standard.
  • Inner jacket / filler — affects diameter and price.
  • Armor / shield — aluminium interlocked, steel tape, copper tape or none.
  • Outer sheath — PVC, PE, LSZH; sunlight and moisture ratings.
  • Packing — reel type, length, drum marking.

Send us your project spec sheet and we will return a line-by-line confirmation with the closest standard constructions and alternates.
